radiance & impact
Bochum offers its guests much more than "just" the story of coal and steel. With some 400,000 inhabitants, and a purchasing power of around seven billion euro, Bochum is also a significant and dynamic metropolis at the very heart of Europe; a cultural centre, a university town, and an important location for business and science. Teaching and research are conducted at no less than fifteen institutes and six universities, including the Ruhr University Bochum, Germany's largest campus. More than twelve museums, Bochum's renowned Schauspielhaustheatre, and countless cultural events, win the enthusiasm of the city's visitors. The Bochum Symphony Orchestra, one of the country's top-ranking orchestras, sets the tone. Europe's largest musical event, the "Bochum Total" rock festival, has been held here since 1986. Numerous internationally known corporations, including Opel, Telekom, ThyssenKruppand Aral, already benefit from the multiple locational advantages of this dynamic metropolis at the centre of the Ruhr conurbation. Both tourists and the local citizens enjoy carefree hours of "Ruhr relaxation" in and around fourteen parks and lakes, or in the bustle of some seventy restaurants, nine discotheques, and the cafés and bars of Bochum's own legendary "Bermuda Triangle". In short: the city's many-facetted flair, its tranquil backwaters and its no less charming rough edges, make Bochum special - and especially worth a visit!
